This paper addresses the use of e-learning in the teaching of the Fundamentals of Community Nursing (FCN) at the Unifesp State School of Nursing (SSLN), São Paulo State, Brazil. We first analyse literature and curriculum related to FCN and its practices in the teaching of the Fundamentals of Community Nursing within a public university. We propose the combination of e-learning with academic grade testing. This way, the e-learning is continuously enriched, allowing its adaptation according to students' needs, as well as their teachers' demands. The Funding Organization for the study was the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development, CNPq (National Council for Scientific and Technological Development, Brazil). We suggest and analyze the feasibility of the following, with no other restrictions: (i) the introduction of e-learning at the SSLN, using a curriculum built around an e-learning architecture that supports FCN through a problem-based learning environment, leading to the enhancement of the interaction between students and teachers; (ii) the combination of e-learning with grade testing. In this way, the e-learning is kept as a mode of assessment, and we can detect and recover possible weaknesses that need to be ameliorated. The costs of adopting e-learning are considered satisfactory.
